POINTS TO REMEMBER:
☆Different people will have different developmental goals in life
☆Two persons or groups of persons may seek goals, which are conflicting with each other. A girl expects as much freedom and opportunity as her brother and that he shares in the household work. Her brother may not like this.
☆We can understand development if we think of human history on a time scale Number of years since we began as hunter gatherers (about 200.000 years), Number of years since we began agriculture (from 12.000 years ago): Number of years since the beginning of modern industries (from about 400 years ago).
☆The government has decided to build one Nuclear power project at Kadankulam in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. But the people in this region have protested on the grounds of safety, security and livelihood. A long struggle has ensued. Despite of their protests, the government is going ahead with the project.
☆People want more income. Besides seeking more income, people also seek things like equal treatment, freedom, security and respect from others. All these are important goals to the people.
☆For comparing countries, their income is considered to be one of the most important attributes.
☆World Bank in its World Development Report classifies the countries as high income countries or rich countries, middle income countries and low income countries
☆At present, India falls under the category of middle uncome countries.
☆India's per capita income in 2013 was $3285
☆Human Development Report published by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) compare countries based on the educational levels of the people, their health stanas and Per Capita Income etc.
